Cool Bars in Manchester – the Director’s Cut!

Let’s face it, we’re not short of cool bars in Manchester.  It’s surprising that anyone gets any work done!  We wanted to pull a list together but thought we’d give you a mix of the not-so-usual suspects - although if you’re from these parts you really should of at least heard of them!

Located in the Left Bank area of the city, tucked away down a back alley, Corridor is the definition of a hidden gem. Don’t be fooled by its easy going, downtown decor; Corridor is for the city savvy cocktail drinker, priding itself on a truly unique menu. If you are looking to escape the tourist track, Corridor is a must, but be sure to have your eyes peeled for the faint, neon blue light down Barlow’s Croft road...Chinese whispers spread fast, just like the word of this hang-out.... #ssshhh

Gas Lamp

With an array of traditional ales, malts and beers, Gas Lamp doesn’t pretend to be anything other than a great, basement bar. It doesn’t serve fancy food... in fact it doesn’t serve food full stop! It is just simply one of the quirkiest places! Housed in the former kitchens of the children’s “Wood Street Mission”; the white glazed tiles and dim lighting give the place a somewhat sinister, mystical feel. Gas Lamp is a humble, easy going bar - great for those wanting to escape the city critics.  Think 1940s Doctor Who set and you’re pretty much there for style.

The Terrace at The Restaurant Bar and Grill

Finding somewhere to drink (or eat!) outdoors in Manchester city centre, is somewhat of a challenge. If you don’t fancy the trek up to the bohemian Northern Quarter or down to canal side Castlefields, then The Terrace is for you. Set above Panacea, The Terrace offers optimum people watching from the comfort of cushioned couches and outdoor heating. Great for ladies who lunch, or for a cheeky cocktail after a hard days shopping; The Terrace is understatedly classy and luxurious.

Revolucion de Cuba

A relatively new bar in the city, this buzzing Cuban hang-out is a welcomed breath of fresh air. With live music, tasty Mexican food and fun cocktails, De Cuba is full even on most week nights. Open plan and set over two floors, De Cuba breaks the mould of small boutique bars, yet still retains its soul and character. The venue also offers cocktail master classes, great for corporate events, or those just wanting to tap into their inner mixologist.

"There is nothing more beautiful than a sunset, viewed over a glass of chilled champagne."... View the beauty of the city skyline from the comfort of the Epernay terrace, with a glass of bubbly in one hand (and a house cocktail in the other!) Epernay is Manchester’s signature Champagne Bar and rightly so. Nestled in the heart of the city, Epernay is everything you expect and more; wooden floors, candle lit tables and dim lighting set the mood.

Liars Club

Liars Club really is a tropical hideaway in arguably the wettest city in the UK! As you descend the bamboo staircase, you enter a Tiki retreat, complete with Hawaiian shirts, palm trees, Caribbean inspired cocktails and a reggae soundtrack. The only thing that would make this bar better is an artificial beach and some rays... but seeing as it was awarded Speakeasy Bar of The Year, we think we will keep it as it is!

Spinningfields is arguably the Vogue of the city. With wall to wall designer shops, the bars don’t disappoint either! Residents include “Australasia”, “Oast House”, “The Alchemist” and the newbie; “Neighbourhood”. Spinningfield is also renowned for its pop-ups, last year’s highlights included the Marbella inspired “Yatch Club” and French ski lodge “Ski Club”.

Manchester is adorned with great bars, the best thing to do is get out there and explore! If you find somewhere worthy of a mention, let us know, we’d love to hear your opinions.
