Afternoon Tea - Perfect If You Are Planning An Event In Manchester

The girls in the Assured Events office have taken to the cobbled streets of Manchester to bring ‘Ladies Who Lunch’ the best places in town for Afternoon Tea!

Richmond Tea Rooms – Richmond Street

Tucked away on a back street parallel to the infamous Canal Street, Richmond Tearooms is the definition a hidden gem! On entrance you are whisked into world of totally over the top Alice in Wonderland themed decor; profuse pinks, plush armchairs, giant dolls house; a quintessentially English tea room – a young girls dream!  Richmond Tearoom comes highly recommended; high tea is served with full filled sandwiches, rich, sweet cakes, all washed down with a glass of bubbly. Booking is highly recommended; it may be hidden, but by no means undesired!

47 King Street West

Positioned behind House of Fraser, this upmarket tea rooms is the perfect stop after a hard days shopping in the city. The restaurant has a modern interior with an art deco twist, and the intimate booths are the ideal spot for a girly catch up! There are many options to suit all taste buds, from light bites and salads, to burgers and fish dishes, although we would definitely recommend experiencing the champagne afternoon tea. Freshly filled sandwiches, scones and mini cakes are all beautifully presented, complete with a sparkler!

Teacup is located on Thomas Street in the heart of Manchester’s chic Northern Quarter. After several visits, I don’t think we have seen this place less than packed! Teacup boasts an EXTENSIVE tea menu, all of which come with their own brewing timer to ensure your tea is brewed to perfection! On a sunny day (rare in Manchester, we know), Teacup is the best place to be... If you’re lucky enough to grab a table on the edge of the pavement hustle and bustle; watch the world go by while taking advantage of the free teapot refill and filling ones face full of homemade cake!

Teahive Chorlton

Teahive in trendy Chorlton welcomes you as soon as you step through the door, into the (usually jam packed!) cosy and inviting café, decked out in the style of a vintage sitting room, complete with oversized armchairs and comfy couches to sink into. With an extensive loose leaf tea and artisan coffee menu, and calorific cakes aplenty, this is one afternoon treat you don’t want to miss!  The afternoon tea menu is very competitively priced at just £9.95pp, and if your sweet tooth is playing up there’s plenty of savoury offerings available, from cheese on toast with caramelised red onion relish to a range of delicious daily specials. If you haven’t indulged enough, you can even take a piece of your experience home with you, with their range of delicious homemade jams and loose leaf teas for sale.

In its unassuming location stands this ‘one of a kind’ grand patissier and chocolatier, equipped with Masons Dining Room, that provides for a great indulgence.  Branded as a ‘Three-Storey Emporium of Treats’, before you make your way up to the grand dining room on the first floor, let your senses (and wallet!) be tempted by the impressive deli and cake showroom on the ground floor.  The extensive menu caters for all tastes, complete with two main afternoon tea options to entice you, the Lancashire Afternoon Tea, and the Luxury Champagne Afternoon Tea, complete with chocolate dipped strawberries. If you haven’t indulged enough then you have to try the ‘Slattery Famous Hot Chocolate’ – a tall glass lined with real Belgian chocolate and filled with hot frothy milk, topped with a chocolate disc – to die for!!

Great John Street Hotel

Nestled on a quiet side street in the heart of the city, this former Victorian school house has been transformed into a chic and exclusive luxury townhouse hotel with an eclectic edge. Afternoon tea (requiring advance pre-booking) is enjoyed in the cosy surroundings of the Library, with an afternoon tea to tempt both the sexes, with a gents and ladies option, with the former making a break away from the usual connotations of this afternoon treat, offering ‘manly’ canapés for the discerning gent (!).
