The Spinningfields development, about halfway along Deansgate in Manchester, has certainly brought something new to the city! The bars and restaurants don’t disappoint and The Avenue houses wall to wall designer shops including DKNY, Mulberry, Kurt Geiger and Emporio Armani. Spinningfields is also renowned for its pop-ups. Last year’s highlights included the Marbella inspired “Yacht Club” and French ski lodge “Ski Club”. We are hoping to see the deck chairs back for summer film screenings and are looking forward to what else 2013 will bring!
Some of our highlights at Spinningfields are:
The Oast House
The Oast House initially looks completely out of place in the glass surroundings of Spinningfields, but somehow seems to work. Brought brick by brick from Kent, the old hop house was rebuilt in the heart of the area. The exposed wood creates a rustic feel, cosy and welcoming in the winter and a great outdoor space for the summer! The bar hosts an exciting range of unusual ales, cider and beer, whilst the deli counter offers locally sourced meats, cheese and quiches. The outside bbq serves hot smoked food all year round, including the signature hanging kebabs. The Ale and Beer Tasting Masterclasses on offer are a great option for a teambuild or group activity.
Our favourite place for exciting, innovative and most importantly delicious cocktails! However this isn’t just a cocktail bar… it serves great food all day and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Why not try brunch with some Eggs Benedict and a Breakfast at Tiffany’s cocktail?! The focal point at the Alchemist is the bar, lined with every type of spirit or liquor you can imagine, forming the extensive cocktail menu. One of our favourites is the Mad Hatter’s Party – served over dry ice and poured into delicate glass tea cups - perfect to share with friends. With a heated terrace area come rain or shine we would recommend here as a place to meet up for tasty cocktails or pre-show drinks before a night at the Opera House.
Through the glass entranceway and down the escalator you head into another world beneath Deansgate. Offering Pacific Rim pan-Asian themed food in an ultra modern environment, this is the place to go for a special occasion. The booths are great for groups and the atmosphere and service in here never disappoints, only enhanced by the open kitchen. With a wide menu offering sushi, small dishes or main meals, you can eat however you like. We would recommend a number of the smaller dishes between the group which creates a great social experience!
Neighbourhood is the latest opening at Spinningfields and is certainly not disappointing. The stylish and industrial interior creates the perfect place for cocktails and casual dining. The food is inspired by NYC and as well as all the staple steak cuts, there is a great selection of seafood and vegetarian options. A quirky choice of drink is the ‘Dow Jones Brief’ – this is delivered in a briefcase where you can mix the cocktail at the comfort of your own table! We wouldn’t recommend this place for a quiet catch up or romantic meal at the weekends as it can get busy and pretty loud – but great for a fun night with friends!
Hey Little Cupcake
A cupcake boutique filled with every sweet treat you can think of – with the freshly baked and idyllically decorated cupcakes the star of the show. Hey Little Cupcake’s retro interior is the perfect setting for afternoon tea with a twist and with so much choice of flavours and toppings there’s something for everyone. The shop also offers cupcake decorating classes – perfect for hen dos, kids parties and girly days out!
The BBQ experience is what Southern Eleven specialises in, with authentic and traditional American classics given a modern twist; the wood smokers slowly cook the meat until it melts in your mouth. The place to go when in need of some good honest comfort food!
