The Guide to Budapest

Sarah from the Assured Events team has written a guide to Budapest following a visit  there last week.

Mattius Church

Never thought of Budapest as an incentive destination?  Think again!  Hungary’s capital city is a great destination for employees or clients – it is beautiful, clean, packed with activities and has lots of places to eat and drink.

Where to stay?  Four Seasons Gresham Palace offers unrivalled views across the Danube’s Chain Bridge to the Buda side of the city. The hotel is beautifully renovated, and retains many of the original Art Nouveau features.

Where to eat?  Traditional Hungarian dishes prepared slightly lighter than usual with a modern twist can be found at 21 in the Castle District – you must try the Paprika Chicken.

Where to go out?  The city has a whole host of ‘ruin’ and ‘garden’ bars situated in disused and derelict buildings with funky décor and open air courtyards – check out Otkert and Szimpla, and for a unique rooftop experience visit Corvinteto.

What to try?  The Hungarians have a great café culture; meeting for coffee and cake is a must – try those on offer at the famous Gerbeaud Café.   Or take the railway up to the Palace to check out the colourful tiles of the Mattius Church and stunning architecture of the Fishman’s bastion – it also has amazing views across Budapest’s Castle District.  If you are feeling more daring, try Pálinka the Hungarian spirit made from fermented fruit.

What to do?   The Grand Market provides a great opportunity for a group shopping challenge – hunting out ingredients to then make their own Hungarian dinner.  Budapest is easy to navigate so it would be great for a treasure hunt!  Visit the Turkish baths with their natural thermal waters; private rooms are available for hire for groups.  The opera is very popular in Budapest; performances run in the stunning gold leafed auditorium from September – June and are reasonably priced.

Budapest has something to offer everyone from stunning architecture through to great street entertainment and night life.  Contact us to make your Budapest visit one to remember.
